City of Concord Office of the Mayor Proclamation WHEREAS, the National Association of Town Watch is sponsoring a unique, nationwide crime, drug, and violence prevention program on August 5, 2003 entitled "National Night Out"; and WHEREAS, the "20th Annual National Night Out" provides a unique opportunity for the City of Concord to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country to promote cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts and to strengthen neighborhood spirit; and WHEREAS, it is essential that all citizens of the City of Concord be aware of the importance of community safety programs and the impact that their participation can have on reducing crime, drugs, and violence in our community; and WHEREAS, through Concord's Community Oriented Government, partnerships with neighborhoods have been established, and the Concord Police Department has sponsored Street Smart, Safe Streets and Neighborhood Watch programs, which are all important themes of the "National Night Out" program. NOW THEREFORE, I, Mark A. Peterson, Mayor of the City of Concord, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim August 5,2003 as "National Night Out" in the City of Concord and encourage all citizens of our community to heighten their awareness of community safety through participation in local "National Night Out" activities.
